Plus, Fowlmouth hosts final pop-up, new plans for Andrea’s, and another restaurant for Larry Morrow

After nearly 40 years as a Metairie Chinese takeout favorite, Egg Roll House on Veteran’s Boulevard will close on June 26. The news first surfaced on a Metairie neighborhood Facebook page in April and has since been confirmed by owner Theresa Chien, who told the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate that the family-run shop can’t see sustaining the new rent when their current lease ends. Ricky and Theresa Chien, who have not yet decided if they will reopen in a different location, opened the homey counter-service shop in 1985.

Fowlmouth’s successful pop-up run comes to an end

It’s the end of the road for Fowlmouth, a hugely popular local pop-up by Ozzie Mendoza Diaz that’s been serving Puerto Rican specialties made with Japanese cooking methods for nearly six years. Fresh off a two-week run as a first-time vendor at Jazz Fest, Diaz is moving back to Puerto Rico, he announced on Instagram. He’s serving food for one final weekend as well as hosting a home goods, furniture, and plant sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, and Sunday, May 21, at 1717 Frenchmen Street.

Local hospitality group continues to amass shuttered restaurants

Less than a year after purchasing decades-old Metairie standby Andrea’s, Anthony Marullo III has sold it to prolific local restaurant group Creole Cuisine Restaurant Concepts, reports the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate. The group has purchased several closed restaurants in the area as of late, and is currently developing two New Orleans locations of suburban mini-chain Boulevard American Bistro: One will take over former Emeril Lagasse restaurant NOLA in the French Quarter, and one will replace downtown food hall Auction House Market. The restaurant group was also in the news this week for reportedly being part of a group “backing” New Orleans councilmember Freddie King’s proposal to halt historic protections in the French Quarter.

Larry Morrow to open Frenchmen Street restaurant

It’s been just a few weeks since local restaurateur Larry Morrow debuted French Quarter stunner Sun Chong, but there’s a new restaurant on the horizon (in addition to an already-announced steak and seafood restaurant in the Warehouse District). The Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate reports Morrow is taking over the Yard on Frenchmen (405 Frenchmen Street) for a to-be-named restaurant and lounge serving a New Orleans-meets-Caribbean menu.
