The ’80s-themed hotspot from the Turkey and the Wolf team is offering a great deal on ‘tinis and wine

It’s summer in New Orleans, which means a few things: unrelentingly high temperatures, weekly (if not daily) visits to sno-ball stands, and the slow-down of the local restaurant world. That’s why it counts as big news that Hungry Eyes, Mason Hereford’s hot new ’80s-themed dinner and drinks restaurant, just launched a martini happy hour.

Hungry Eyes, piloted by Hereford of Turkey and the Wolf fame with chef Phil Cenac leading the kitchen, announced this week that after much demand, a martini happy hour has arrived. From when it opens at 4 p.m. through 6 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday (it’s closed Tuesday) the restaurant’s extensive martini list is half-off — a really good deal — and bottles of wine, a great selection curated by wine director Lahzie Takada, are 25 percent off. The martinis, which are a pillar of the restaurant’s ’80s-centric offerings and were created by Carlos Quinonez, include a Vesper, apple martini, a Dashitini (made with gin, mezcal, dashi, curry, horseradish, and dry vermouth), an espresso martini, and a cosmopolitan. Fun fact: the last two are actually on tap behind the bar, with a Coors Light tap spouting the batched espresso martini and the cosmopolitan flowing from a vintage Red Lobster tap.

Hereford, along with Lauren Agudo (his wife), Cenac, and general manager Kate Mirante, opened Hungry Eyes in April 2023. It’s Hereford’s first dinner restaurant after finding great breakfast, brunch, and lunch success with sandwich destination Turkey and the Wolf and then Molly’s Rise and Shine. Food and drinks share equal billing at Hungry Eyes, where a unique menu of inexpensive drinking snacks and medium plates that top out at $20 are designed to complement the bar program, which in addition to wine and martinis offers cocktails like a Pandan Old Fashioned made with rum and bourbon, and a frothy Ube Baby Baby made with coconut, pineapple, and rum.
